This Cedars of Lebanon Fall Engagement session was perfection! I love to ask my couples a few questions so they get to write their own engagement session blog post!
We met at a party in college and started talking, but didn’t exchange any information. A couple days later we realized we were in the same sociology class, so we started sitting together. Then we started hanging out together outside of class and became friends. A couple months later Will asked me out at homecoming!
Mackenzie: Will swears he doesn’t remember this but it definitely happened. We were at my apartment sitting on the couch and talking. I’m not sure how it came up, but we both started singing “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers and naturally just started going back and forth on the “Ba da duh da da”s. That’s when I knew!
Will: The night I told her I love her the first time. (He waited a year and a half to say “I love you”. I’m the first and only person he’s ever said it to, and he wanted to make sure he meant it because he took it very serious and it was a big deal to him.)
He wanted me to watch this show, Naruto, with him. If you know anything about Naruto, watching it is a BIG commitment. There’s 981 episodes if you watch all of it. So for me to watch it he had to make a big commitment, too. He had until June 30, 2023 to propose and I would watch it with him. Well, June 30 came and went with no proposal, so I woke up a little disappointed on July 1. I knew we had been making a joke out of it, but I really thought he was going to do it. So I took our dogs outside the morning of July 1 expecting us to just have a normal Saturday, but when I came back inside he got down on one knee. He said he didn’t want our marriage to start on the stipulation of a deal, and now I’m watching Naruto as I type this because I want to, not because I have to.
We’re eloping for our ceremony then having a reception to celebrate with family and friends! For the ceremony I think we’re most excited to just soak it in as a special moment for just the two of us and our two dogs since they’re such an important part of our lives. For the reception, we have so many different people who are important to us from different times in our lives (family, childhood friends, college friends, post-grad friends), so we’re excited to have all of those important people in one room having fun and enjoying each others company!
One of our favorite places to go is The Crazy Gnome in East Nashville! We like to go sit and play board games while we have a beer or two. We’re both also huge dog people! Our two dogs, Theo and Chesty, are super important to us! We have a birthday crown that we make them wear on their birthdays every year, and they both get their own stockings with gifts to open on Christmas.
